Now at that time, Gichin Funakoshi developed a centralized style known as the Shotokan style in which he taught to students. He was also the one person who was responsible for spreading this ancient art to the capital of Japan.
Eventually modernization set itself into place and there began a ranking system in this martial arts. Students were ranked based on skill and experience by the colors of their belts. One could not change the color of his belt into a higher color unless he passed the test and was worthy of wearing a new colored belt.
In 1957, a different style which became as Kyokushin emerged which happened to be a fusion of the Shotokan variation along with the other small styles that came out. Now this is the style that is often practiced by the people today. Until now there are a lot of people who practice it in order to learn to fight in full contact.
