Light skinned people may use artificial sunscreen to limit the amount of ultraviolet light reaching their skin. Though it is beneath the outer layer, it can fade out completely in less than two weeks since the day of initial application.

Manufacturers may also add fragrances to their products as a way of identification. Paraben, a preservative agent present in some lotions has been suspected to be detrimental to the endocrine system.
