Stone shower surrounds can be in different forms depending on a clients preference. This could range between well-polished walls that reflect light to surfaces that are not too shiny or reflect much light to fairly rough surfaces. The natural stone that one decides to use should be easy to maintain and luxurious as per a clients preference.

Cleaning is one of the most important steps of maintenance of stone shower surroundings and therefore it requires the cleaner to be well informed about the appropriate method cleaning. There are two types of grits that are siliceous and calcareous, the Siliceous is easy to clean and durable only when the right detergents with the appropriate pH products. The calcareous on the other highly react to acids.

Maintenance requires one to be observant of the conditions of these walls that is whether they need to be replaced, polished or understanding the stains on the walls so that one has eased in knowing which stain removal product is best. This also means that when one realizes that there are stains of any other form of a spill, careful assessment of the wall should be done to determine if it may need a sealer.

Precautions are also a form of maintenance such that safety is made a priority. Since most may be slippery when wet, measures such as carpets or small mats should be strategically placed to ensure shoe soles are dry mostly, conspicuous precautions signs should be available, frequent mopping of the floor all depending on the size of the building or room.

Cleaning procedures must be clearly described carefully to cleaners such that they do not damage the grit surrounds. They should ensure that the surrounds are not exposed to heat, chemicals or anything that can damage the walls this means that the detergents used must be compatible with the stones used to create the wall.

Different natural pebbles need different sealers in case of damages of the pebbles. There are two main common types of sealers namely the topical sealers and the impregnators. So to understand which sealer to use one needs to be fully aware of the type of pebble and its appropriate sealer. The topical sealer is waterproof, anti- contaminants and other spills but the impregnators allow penetration.

Hard water contains minerals such as Calcium and lime and this means that when a bathroom has a grit, these minerals will clog on walls and could cause damage to the stones. Although there are products to get rid of these minerals they could still damage the grits that is why regular cleaning of bathrooms is important since it prevents accumulation of these minerals.

These among other challenges face the pebble shower surrounds but all it takes is proper research on how to handle different stones. This includes understanding the Ph. Of most detergents used in cleaning as well as those that help in stain removal. The types of pebble and the most appropriate sealer for the pebble chosen. For durability, proper maintenance is required.
