What is it about the basement? People move into a house and decorate all the rooms above ground, then the biggest space in the house is relegated to the status of store room. In fact, this is the most versatile room in the house, a blank canvas. Make the most of this space and increase the value of your home with a basement remodeling York PA.

It's not like we even go down there to look at it. What we should be doing is basement remodeling York PA to add functional space and maybe even increase the value of our house should we ever decide to sell it.

Because the lower floor is not part of the everyday flow of the household, it doesn't matter if it's a little eccentric compared to the rest of the decor. Here, you can afford to experiment with different arrangements and different applications of the space. If what you have in mind doesn't work out, try something else.

The beauty of a basement is that it is somewhat detached from the rest of the household. Normal rules need not apply. This is an opportunity to experiment with different looks or even to hone your painting and decorating techniques. If you set it up for a specific use and it doesn't pan out, set it up for something else. You haven't lost anything because you weren't really using that space, anyway.

Another use for a remodeled basement is a male sanctuary, or man cave. This is someplace for him to go and "be himself" without worrying about offending feminine sensibilities. You can learn a lot about a guy by observing how he outfits his personal space.

Entertainment suite. Set this up with a home entertainment center and plenty of comfortable sofas, chairs, giant pillows, etc., and you can entertain the family and friends on important occasions like the Super Bowl, World Series, Downtown Abbey. By day, it's a study/den/library. By night, it's a home cinema, complete with popcorn machine.

Whatever new use you plan for your newly remodeled cellar space, be it a study, a media center or a game room, if you can find space for a sofa bed the room can double as a guest bedroom. Later, you can put in an en-suite bathroom and/or kitchenette and Mom and/or Dad can move in to enjoy being retired and being close to the family.

Using a basement purely for additional storage space is a huge waste. If you can't bear to part with your belongings, that's what rafters are for. You can throw down a few sheets of plywood and store the boxes out of the way. There is so much more you can do with the extra space, and by smartening it up with just a minimum of effort, you might even add value to your house if you decide to sell it at a later date.
