Moving to a new apartment or house can be overwhelming. It does not have to be if you do your homework first. If you live in Las Vegas, Nevada, you will be able to hire las vegas movers easily. The same is true for any location if you do some research. Here are some hints on how to find a company you can trust.

Do not just pick the first name that catches your attention. In addition to references and gathering information from everyone you know that has ever used a mover, check for complaints and resolutions with the Better Business Bureau. Include the American Moving and Storage Association in your background check.

Next, narrow your list down to three or four companies. They should send an estimator out to your home. That person should walk through each room, closet, and pantry in your home. Also, your garage, patio, yard, basement, and attic should be looked at and included in the estimate. At this point, be certain you have asked to see that they have insurance not only on their employees, but also enough to pay for any possible damages to your processions.

It is important to find out during their visit, what the full name of their business is and if they do business under any other names. Get all contact information including e-mail addresses and all phone numbers. Also get the license numbers they operate with. These include their Motor Carrier license and the U. S. Department of Transportation license. In addition, find out if they use their own employees and if they carry workers-compensation insurance or if they hire day laborers. The difference being a well trained employee working with your items or someone who may not have proper training.

Now that you have several estimates, compare them. If they all seem higher than you want to pay, find out where you can reduce cost. Remember that just because a bid may be much lower than the others does not mean it is a going to be better. As a matter of fact, take the highest bid and find out why it is higher then try to negotiate it to a lower rate.

You can have your movers pack everything. Just remember they will do just that. If there is garbage in a trash can, it all gets packed. So, clear out anything you do not want to take to your new home. You will also want to pack some items yourself. These include, jewelry, important documents, bank papers, photographs, cash, prescription medicine, and any firearms. Anything you want close at hand, you should pack and transport yourself.

You should also have an overnight bag packed with toiletries and enough clothes for two days for each member of the family. Be home and on hand when they show up to start packing and loading. Station yourself at the door and mark each box with the room they belong in. This will make unpacking much easier.

Now, you can rest easier knowing that you did your research and have put a plan into place. You have your marker ready to write on boxes where they belong in the new house. The next thing to plan now is going to be your new housewarming.
