A handyman in Washington State is not required to have a license or registration. However, this depends on the amount of the job done. If the work involves major remodeling and repair, the contractor must have a license. Insurance is good for all handypersons. This is not a requirement of the state but if a person gets injured or damages your property while working for you, you become liable for compensation and payment of medical bills.

Check the status of a company in Better Business Bureau website. If the company has complains against it, you will find it there. Ask if the company or individual is part of any industry programs or organizations that are located in Vancouver. A company with an extra accreditation is a reliable one.

Get various handymen to come to your home and bid on the project. It is not necessary that you select the lowest bid, let quality guide you in making a choice.
