The common features of standard phone services are high speed data, message and limited minutes. This standardization fails to meet the needs of everyone especially seniors. Only special phone service for elderly can effectively serve their communication needs without excessive resource wastage. Interaction habits for seniors vary meaning that they require a special package different from what the masses get.

Seniors with ordinary or smart phones mainly use them to remain in contact with their relatives, friends and family. Some want to stay updated especially through news sites or in contact with their grand children. Communication providers have introduced very complicated plans that are anchored on data. However, some remain considerate and are offering special plans that fit seniors. They allow you to only pay for as much as you use or need.

Senior plans are not available across all networks as companies seek to standardize their services. A few firms have maintained their plans with focus on prepaid minutes and limited text messages. The pricing for such plans is considerate ensuring that you do not spend a lot on a subscription that will only go to waste. You do not have to commit a huge fraction of your monthly income on unnecessary services.

Communication habits and needs for seniors vary depending on age and personal preferences. Most elderly persons would be comfortable with a few messages and call minutes. For the few who require data, such features are added with the possibility of scaling up and down depending on use. Understand the communication habits and needs before subscribing to any plan.

All elderly persons should have unlimited access to emergency services. Most of these services are in fact free. However, the basic minimum for any elder is a few minutes to contact relatives, friends and family should an emergency arise. Most firms have a package that allows you to meet this basic need.

The plans do not come with requisite gadgets. You will be required to purchase certain accessories with the basic one being the handset. For seniors whose income is evidently low, there are subsidized plans by phone companies through Federal lifeline program. This program benefits those on food stamps, Medicaid, supplemental security income, and such social welfare programs. Some of these gadgets might only be for basic communication like text messages and calls. This might not meet the needs of every senior.

There are other communication needs that are important for seniors beyond messaging, internet and calls. This communication is facilitated through smart gadgets. The gadgets enable doctors, caregivers and relatives to monitor the health of the elderly. Such gadgets might require networking with the service provider like a doctor. They must be protected from breakage through falling or when they come into contact with water.

Age is a major determinant of the communication needs of a senior. Basic plans may work for most of them but some have special or personal preferences that must be met. The idea is to avoid a complex plan that leads to wastage of resources. It should also be clear to use and enable clear and sufficient communication with all persons interested in contacting the senior.
