What are some of the variables that can make or break a website? If you're an experienced developer, chances are that you will respond with "clutter." Simply put, if there's too much for the human eye to take in at once, it can prove to be a huge problem. What are some of the ways of reducing clutter, you may wonder? The following do's and don'ts are just a few that every web design company, whether brand new or established, should be aware of.

DO know that less is usually more. This is usually true when it comes to the efforts of web development companies across the board. Creative minds may feel inclined to add as much as they can, but the truth of the matter is that this typically doesn't bode well from a cosmetic standpoint. The human eye can only register so much in a limited time. Reputable authorities along the lines of Lounge Lizard would be hard-pressed to disagree.

DON'T forget about responsiveness. Another way to keep website clutter at bay is by making the site in question as responsive as possible. When someone accesses a site from their mobile phone, it's fair to expect that it will be at least somewhat different from what a desktop computer will show. This is an example of responsiveness coming into effect. Without this critical factor, clutter may be more prevalent than it should be.

DO be mindful about link implementation. For the sake of SEO, you should be mindful about the links that are implemented on your website. If you include too many, it can hurt your search engine rankings. Furthermore, too many links can result in clutter, which will make your site difficult to navigate. When people don't know where to go, it can hurt the user experience. These are just a few reasons why web designers must keep link implementation in mind.

DON'T forget that websites must be thoroughly tested. Perhaps the best way to keep clutter away is by testing your website. Even before it goes live, you should make it a point to see that everyone works the way that it should. No matter how small a potential error might be, it should be enough to convince you to look into and correct it. By following this step, clutter will be nothing short of a nonissue.
