For many botanists, they want to move the plants from one area to another without damaging or completely killing the plants. This has been considered a convenient method as opposed to growing them which takes a lot of time and effort. Relocation of Growing Cycads through using their parent plants has been often used for conservation or commercial reasons.

Firstly, the older leaves of the tree which are often at the bottom are first cut off. This is done so as to make the roots struggle less in transporting nutrients to a large number of leaves while it still needs to recover from the move. Additionally, the directional orientation pf the leaves are marked so as to enable proper placement of the leaf on moving it to a new location.

Afterwards, the diameter of the caudex is measured. The digit is usually very important as it determines the depth and diameter of the hole dug to remove the tree. The caudex diameter is added 3 or 4 times to acquire a diameter in which the hole around the tree is to be dug, as well as the diameter of the hole to be dug underground. The caudex is mainly used to store water.

After the holes are dug appropriately, the process of removing the tree is simpler as it only needs to be pulled. Extra caution is considered while removing the roots to ensure that they are damaged to a minimal extent. This is because, the more the damage, the more the time they will require. The extra weight of the tree in the form of soil on the roots is removed through hosing the roots.

Once the vegetation is completely removed, the investor will need to closely examine the condition of roots. This helps evaluate if the roots will be able to regrow back easily after the move. Additionally, the investor cuts off ragged roots on the root ball. The remaining roots are then treated using root hormones and fungicides so as to promote its survival during the move.

The plant is the relocated to a new location using a machine and vehicle either to be plotted or boxed. Extra care during transportation should be done to avoid additional root damage. For those who want to plant the vegetation in a new location, they need to find an area with a sloppy nature. Additionally, the soils need to have a good drainage system. Thus sandy soils are a common choice.

In the new location, a hole with the diameter 1 and half more than that of a root ball diameter is dug. The 1 and a half more measurement is also used to dig the deepness of the hole. The directional orientation of the leaves is then noted to guide those placing the tree into the hole. The depth of soil to the plant should also be similar to that in the original location to reduce the plant stress.

On placing in the trees, an earth trench should be dug around it in which 5 gallons of water with rooting hormone is placed which should last for 2-3 weeks. The resulting first leaves may not be similar to that while in the old location, but they will get better with the next season.
