The alloys of aluminum are made in two main groups. These are the casting alloy and the wrought alloy. The two alloys are made for unique areas of applications and have different properties. However, for the ordinary applications, the wrought alloy is the more common of the two. It is made by extrusion and rolling process followed by forging into the shape desired. In order to make the product even harder, the heat treatment and cold working are some of the processes that can be used. In the process, the 6061-T6 Aluminum pipe are among the possible products.

However, for better understanding, it is better to start by examining their names. In order to identify the major alloys that make up the wrought or the cast alloys, they are given a 4-digit number. If the label is 2XXX, then it contains copper, 4XXX contain silicon while 6XXX alloys have magnesium and silicon.

In addition to the 4-series number, the alpha-numeric suffixes are used for further detailed identification. It helps indicate the temper or the degree hardness. In the 6061-T6, the alpha-numeric suffix T6 is an indication that it is a heat treated solution followed by artificial aging so as to minimize distortion. Stretch stress-relieving can also be done and this means additional numbers on the alpha-numeric part.

As such, it is clear why the 6061-T6 aluminum materials are tough. They are used as a solution where structural strength is necessary while weight is undesired. They also offer very good finishing properties and are known to respond well to anodizing processes such as clear and color dye, and hard coat.

Aluminum is known as a soft and highly reactive metal, and in its pure form, is very unsuitable for many applications. However, the alloys and the 6061-T6 alloy, in particular, is completely opposite. It is very tough and therefore very valuable in the case where the structure is designed to be tough and long-lasting. They have a high-to-weight ratio and are thus used in the construction of some plane parts such as the wings and the fuselage.

Its ordinary uses include the construction of boats and other watercrafts due to strength and light weight. It is ideal for sailboat masts, yacht hulls, and for the fabrication of flat-canoe bottoms. The pipes are also ideal for bicycle frames, heat sinks, heat exchanger, air coolers, and other applications that require heat transfer. The material best for piping and tubing where non-corrosive properties are necessary, such as hydraulic, water and air piping.

However, for any other construction work, these are among the most used metals other than the steel. They are best for applications that involve the heat transfer such as piping for heat-sink, heat exchanger pipes, air cooler pipes and other cases where noncorrosive properties.

Other than steel, there are the other most used metal structures for construction. They are easy to handle and offers superior solutions for pipes and frames. They are widely sold in hardware shops and it is thus necessary for the buyer to understand how to make the right choice. Ideally, the 6061-T6 should be the marks to look for, however, the standardization and quality marks are also necessary to avoid buying from unapproved manufacturers. The internet may offer a good solution when buying the pipes. It gives access to numerous online sellers and the possibility of getting a seller with lower prices.
