Remodeling a kitchen or bathroom is an expensive undertaking. First, you must select the best contractor to work with. You will want to check the reputation of the company. Talk to relatives who may have a recommendation. Check with the Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been lodged against him. The Portland Remodeling Contractor you hire should have experience and satisfied customers.

Most will meet with the homeowners for a free consultation. He or she will listen to what their plan involves and make relevant suggestions on colors and styles. Remodeling a kitchen may involve taking out all old appliances and replacing them. Cabinets may also be replaced.

The homeowner may want windows moved or the kitchen space expanded. These would require additional cost. Putting in an island with a second sink has many advantages such as extra counter space and storage. This is a good feature for someone who plans to cook large meals.

Refrigerators are made with wonderful features. Yours may be huge with a wine compartment and access to cold water without opening the door. The freezer may be placed on the bottom if you find that more convenient. Automatic ice cube makers are standard, but, may require additional water pipes being installed.

Cabinets come in a wide variety of styles and wood finishes. Drawer pulls and cabinet doors can be very artistic. Extra cabinet space may include pull out sections for convenience. If you love to cook you might want a stove with six burners or a double oven to make it more convenient to prepare large meals for guests.

Your contractor should never rush you into making decisions on all these features or paint and tile colors. This is an expensive undertaking and entails choices you will live with for many years to come. Advice should be freely given while not pressuring the homeowner into selecting anything he may later regret. An estimate of cost should be provided.
