Childbirth is a miracle in many respects. Very few women regret what they had to go through to get the kids they have. There are physical consequences for many new mothers though, that most had not expected. Your stomach may not be as tight, and your breasts might be shaped differently. When you decide on a mommy makeover northwest Indiana surgeons say there are some things you can do in advance to make the recovery easier.

You want to choose a surgeon carefully. You need to look for someone with expertise and an experienced team of professionals. The doctor should have a proven track record. Selecting several physicians, and visiting them for consultation before making a final decision, is a wise course of action.

If you are a smoker, you need to quit. If you're not going to do it for your heart, lungs, and overall health, you should stop smoking before surgery for the sake of your vanity. Doctors say nicotine is a vasoconstrictor, meaning it constricts blood flow. When surgeons are operating on sensitive areas like belly buttons and nipples, an adequate supply of blood is critical.

You will have to take it easy after your surgery. This will be next to impossible if you have small kids and no help. You need to make arrangements in advance to have someone come in and help you. There is no question that someone else will have to do the household chores and pick the kids up from school. You might not realize it, but you will also need assistance dressing yourself and preparing meals.

Your house, including your medicine cabinet, should be well stocked before having surgery. You can get aspirin, bandages, lotions, and antibacterial soaps well in advance of your hospitalization. Preparing meals in advance and freezing them will be a big help. All you should have to do is defrost and pop them in the microwave or oven.

While you are recovering, makeup and fitted clothing should be low on your agenda of things to worry about. You'll be much more comfortable in loose fitting garments. If necessary, you can go on a shopping spree at the local discount store and pick up some inexpensive items. Once you are fully recovered, you can make a donation of the clothing to your favorite charity.

Post surgery is not the time to act like you are a super woman. Your family needs to understand that they will have to step up and help. You should be able to freely communicate with your partner about how you feel and what can be done to make your recovery go more smoothly.

Most women consider pregnancy and childbirth the price they have to pay to get the children they want. Getting back to normal takes time, exercise, and eating right. When you're doing all that and still have issues, surgery can be the way you return to your pre-pregnancy self.
